SEFE Marketing & Trading’s LNG portfolio expands with the addition of two LNG carriers

GM&T's new LNG carriers

With two new LNG vessels scheduled for delivery, we take a closer look at how it will contribute to our portfolio and business sustainability.

Scheduled for delivery in early summer 2021, our LNG portfolio takes another step towards global expansion with two 174,000m3 LNG carriers managed by Greek shipping company Alpha Gas S.A.

The first LNG carrier Energy Integrity was delivered on 14 May this year, while the second carrier Energy Intelligence, is planned towards the end of June. Both vessels will be placed within our global LNG portfolio, to ensure we consistently maintain our structured supply dynamics.

The two LNG carriers are being built at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Okpo Shipyard in South Korea – a state-of-the-art shipyard with a long history of delivering high-quality, modern LNG carriers to specification on time.

The vessels will feature a re-liquefication system that will take additional unused boil-off gas from the cargo tanks and re-liquefy it into LNG, where it will be returned to the cargo tanks. This cargo containment system, from Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), is one the safest of its kind, and will produce the least amount of boil-off produced from the carried LNG.

Thanks to the modern insulation techniques used in these vessels, the boil-off is reduced by around 40%, and will consume around 20% less fuel for the same voyage than a conventional TFDE-type LNG carrier. This will result in fewer emissions per mile, and more LNG for our customers.

Such an addition to our portfolio emphasises SEFE Marketing & Trading’s continued commitment to sustainability in shipping through various methods. Rather than relying on the natural properties of LNG as a fuel, we’ve gone further than this mandatory minimum to achieve greater sustainability.

We’ve covered our long-term contracted LNG shipping requirement through ship owner partnerships and long-term contracted vessels. These partnerships allow SEFE Marketing & Trading to continue to drive standards, such as obliging our partners to sign up to and follow ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001 (environmental) standards.

News of their cooldown destinations and first cargoes are still forthcoming too. We’ll keep you posted with any updates in the meantime.
