Role objectives

 

This opportunity is in the well-regarded Global Product Control team, working from London.

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the team’s activities:

  • Daily Economic Valuation//Exposures/Attribution reporting of all open exposure; Monthly IFRS compliant reporting;
  • Independent Price Verification (IPV) and market curve data management;
  • Facilitating the operational readiness of new products;
  • Development activities including continuous improvements to the Middle Office processes;
  • Developing analysis tools and reports; valuation and exposure analysis on new structured transactions;
  • Supporting and training junior members of the team​

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reporting & Control:
    • Daily economic PnL revaluation, exposure reporting and full attribution of any daily changes
    • Monthly IFRS compliant revaluations, and full explanation and understanding of any valuation differences
    • Ensure full understanding of the rationale behind all open positions within books under ownership
    • Closely work with the book owners to ensure all changes in Exposure and PnL attribution is aligned to expectations
    • Support the daily IPV process
    • Create and prepare periodic and ad-hoc valuation reports for senior management (weekly and monthly valuation reporting, IFRS Risks analysis, Economic vs IFRS valuation differences)
    • Conduct any ad-hoc/one-off portfolio analysis upon both the Front Office or any other Support Function requests with regard to both the economic and IFRS valuation impact of a new commercial transactions/hedging strategy;
    • Develop, implement and maintain the Product Control reporting framework within the SEFE M&T policies, supporting the development of these policies as necessary

    Systems Development:

    • Contribute to the Operational Readiness process for the trading of a new product and/or the execution of a new bespoke complex structured transaction, ensuring relevant aspects of the DLC are adhered to
    • Design, specify and UAT any functionality delivered through systems development and enhancement
    • Regularly review the existing Reporting & Control system, adopting a philosophy of continuous control improvements, integral in the light of the ever-changing nature of the portfolio and external market conditions
    • Support IT development to ensure efficiency of the Global EOD process

Skills & Competencies

  • Sound knowledge of Middle Office best practices across the Deal Lifecycle, with experience in commodity valuations
  • Conduct high-calibre deliveries in a timely manner in a fast-growing working environment; This entails in particular to foster feasible albeit robust solution to problems within the imparted timeline;
  • Manage stakeholder’s expectations. This entails in particular to develop and maintain trust and close partnership with both the Front Office and other Support Functions;
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts in a simple and immediately understandable way tailored to the audience;
  • Very Good analytical skills to review/assess a standalone complex structured transaction and/or a large trading portfolio;
  • Be a high-calibre performer with a proven track record of significant deliveries through innovative thinking

Experience

  • Prior experience in a Middle Office role, environment dealing with reporting, controls and systems development;
  • Good understanding of the energy commodity market, with prior expertise in one or more asset in this list is preferred; Natural Gas, LNG, Oil or Power
  • Experience in commodity valuations, across both linear structures and non-linear products (Vanilla Options, Storage, Transportation) is preferred
  • Excellent Excel skills; Experience in VBA/SQL or any other programming language is a preferential
  • Prior experience of Openlink Endur ETRM system is preferred

Education

Degree level qualification or equivalent experience, with degree qualification preferably in a subject with mathematical or economics component
