Role objectives

This is an exciting opportunity to develop controls and reporting in a dynamic Retail energy business. The job holder will establish a new team who will be responsible for identifying, measuring, and reporting market and model risks.

Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting & Control

  • Production of daily exposures and metrics like VaR, Earning-at-Risk, Economic Capital requirement.
  • Manage those exposure and metric positions against the limits and escalate any breach or incident event to the relevant management committee and risk owners
  • Explain/explore any risk profile change across the portfolio responsible for noticeable VaR moves or unexpected accumulative losses
  • Create and prepare periodic and ad-hoc Market Risk reports for senior management committees
  • Conduct any ad-hoc/one-off portfolio analysis and risk impact of new and existing strategies
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the market risk control framework, policy and procedures
  • Work in collaboration with the portfolio modelling and strategy desks to develop and monitor adequate controls and model validation processes.
  • Own the development of model risk governance and monitoring

Systems Development

  • Contribute to the Operational Readiness process for new product and/or the execution of bespoke complex structured transactions
  • Design, specify and UAT any functionality delivered through systems development and enhancement. Regularly review the existing Reporting & Control system in the light of the ever-changing nature of the portfolio and external market conditions
  • To be aware of and comply with all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to the SEFE Energy Data Protection policy, Equal Opportunities policy, and the Email and Internet Acceptable Usage Policy, in addition to Fire and Health and Safety Regulations.

The role holder may also be required to carry out any other duties within the scope and purpose of this role as requested by their line manager and in line with business needs.

Skills & Competencies

  • Essential: Python expertise to a proficient level. Other languages desirable: R, C++, SQL, Matlab
  • Desirable: PowerBI / Tableau visual tool proficiency
  • Desirable: Team lead experience, supporting development of junior team members
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with the business in a clear, concise, and insightful manner
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and maintaining risk reporting / predictive models
  • Experience in developing reports and MI with clear recommendation for the business to act on
  • Confident in delivering insights driven from data and market behaviour

Experience

  • Experience in a Risk Management and Quantitative Modelling environment, dealing with reporting, control and systems development
  • Good knowledge of Market Risk management practise. This entails in-depth knowledge of, Value-at-Risk and Earnings-at-Risk calculation techniques.
  • Good understanding of the energy commodity market across all physical asset classes ideally with expertise in one or more; Natural Gas, LNG, Clean Energy, Oil or Power

Education

  • Degree level qualification or above preferably in a subject with strong quantitative/mathematical components
