A newly created role for a contract specialist to join our in-house legal team


As an integrated midstream energy company SEFE has an opportunity for a Legal Negotiator to join its in-house legal team based in London.

This is a newly created role to lead a key risk management project launched to bring all existing master trading agreements in line with our latest risk policy. This is a challenging and exciting role where you will independently and proactively liaise with parties both internally and externally, to draft amendment documentation and progress the consequential negotiations and advise the relevant stakeholders, as a core function of the risk management process.

To succeed in this role you will be a skilled and efficient negotiator, able to draw negotiations to a mutually beneficial conclusion while safeguarding SEFE’s risk position.

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months with the potential to extend.


 Key accountabilities include:

  • Negotiating a high volume of documentation to bring SEFE Marketing &Trading’s (SM&T’s) master trade agreements into line with our latest risk policy
  • Taking instructions from the Credit department and Front Office on which negotiations to prioritise and regularly giving progress updates
  • Reviewing master trade agreements to determine which provisions need updating in view of SM&T’s risk policy
  • Drafting amendment agreements incorporating input from key stakeholders
  • Liaising with the counterparty, and internally across Front Office, Credit, Tax, Regulatory Compliance, Legal and other internal stakeholders to independently negotiate amendments to potentially, a full suite of master trade agreements per counterparty
  • Proactively following up with counterparties to maintain the pace of negotiations;
  • Resolving negotiation deadlocks, in a proactive and resourceful way;
  • Independently bringing negotiations to a mutually acceptable conclusion from a risk perspective;
  • Maintaining an up to date record of the status of all negotiations, including the ones completed;
  • Working with SM&T’s processes to ensure that records of all drafts, discussions and execution copies are stored in the correct manner.


  •  Minimum 3-4 years’ experience of energy trading documentation, essential
  • Experience in dealing with EFET, ISDA, GTMA, IETA, MNAs, CSAs and other related credit support documentation
  • An understanding of the nuances of the relevant products traded under the above-mentioned documentation combined with an understanding of the most recent market developments in these areas
  • An awareness of some of the regulatory issues affecting these markets is desirable, but not essential
  • The ability to negotiate documentation from start to finish with minimum supervision

  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to build and maintain strong and effective working relationships
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
