Reporting to the Head of Marketing & External Communications, the External Communications Manager will be a senior member of the team. The successful candidate will work alongside the Senior Marketing Manager, other Marketing colleagues and external agencies to create and manage communications and content across a variety of channels.

What you will do

Core responsibilities will include PR, social media, content marketing and operational communications, but the successful candidate will also support the wider marketing team with content for additional purposes – from marketing campaigns to case studies and website content.

Key activities include working with the Head of Marketing & External Communications to develop and evolve SEFE Energy’s UK marketing strategy, as well as:


  • Working with an external PR agency, develop proactive PR campaigns to raise brand awareness and establish us as leaders in the B2B energy market
  • Develop and manage a repository of approved messaging, allowing for quick responses to media enquiries
  • Stay on top of energy industry and business news, identifying opportunities for coverage on key topics
  • Monitor and share relevant business and industry news stories with key internal stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain a list of national, local and trade media contacts
  • Draft and oversee the submission of relevant award submissions
  • Align with the Head of Marketing & External Communications, as well as colleagues in SEFE Group, on media requests and reactive statements, as required

Content Marketing

  • Define and oversee the implementation of a content marketing approach and plan, adopting a variety of effective B2B content marketing tactics throughout the buying funnel
  • Work with external agencies to develop engaging and effective content that aims to develop our brand, establish us as thought leaders, improve website visibility and optimise sales opportunities
  • Plan and oversee the implementation of multi-channel campaigns, working with other members of the marketing team to ensure consistency in messaging
  • Work with Digital Marketing Manager to review and update online website content, including landing pages, blogs and gated content
  • Create content to support the development and launch of new products and offerings in collaboration with colleagues in Sales

Social Media

  • Create and publish a calendar of dynamic, varied and engaging social content across LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter

Operational Communications

  • Work with business stakeholders to update or draft new customer lifecycle communications, as required
  • Work with project teams to understand changes in the energy industry that may impact customers, creating communications plans and content as required


  • Support the wider Marketing team with copywriting, as needed
  • Continuously review plans and tactics to ensure we’re taking a best-practice approach
  • Proactively manage relationships with agencies and carefully select new partners when required
  • Remain informed of the latest developments in the energy industry and beyond
  • Work with other members of the Marketing team to measure and report on the impact and ROI of PR, Content Marketing and social media activity. Use these insights to recommend and adopt improvements to marketing process and strategy

What you will bring to the role

You’ll have experience in both marketing and operational external communications, and be self-starter who loves a challenge, able and eager to work autonomously.

The right person for this role will be an exceptional copywriter and editor, with experience in both marketing and operational external communications.

You’ll have a knack for developing compelling copy for a variety of channels, no matter the objective. You’ll also have plenty of experience developing comprehensive external communications plans in collaboration with business stakeholders. You’ll be a creative and innovative self-starter, with an eye for detail, and an excellent understanding of what works well (and what doesn’t) when it comes to B2B communications.

Together with:

  • A firm understanding and experience in PR
  • Considerable experience drafting and editing content for a variety of audiences and purposes within a B2B environment
  • Experience developing comprehensive project communications plans
  • Commercially-minded, with experience delivering and measuring ROI
  • Confident in working with a variety of business stakeholders to deliver successful Communications activities
  • Experience effectively managing partner agencies to deliver value for money
  • Experience delivering results in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organisation and time management

Knowledge of the energy industry is desirable
