We are looking for someone to join our Portfolio Modelling team in Paris. Working with key stakeholders you will help develop tailored insight into demand and portfolio forecasts across Gas, Power & Emissions.

What you will do?

In the role of Data Engineer (forecasting) you will work closely with your immediate colleagues whilst building effective working partnerships across Portfolio Management, Sales, Risk and Finance to ensure we maintain rigour and accuracy around our data modelling and produce industry leading forecasts.

Some of the key activities include

  • Owning, creating, maintaining, and analysing demand forecasts and associated data architectures, pipelines and datasets from existing databases, industry file flows and unique structured/unstructured sources for use across portfolio analysis and ML analytics.
  • Ensuring a stable and automated operating environment, with strong back up and benchmarking processes, for data analytics, visualization, quality assurance, report content monitoring and issue resolutions.
  • Liaising with the Data Scientists/Architects/Quants and Portfolio Quants to ensure tier one insight into portfolio EBITDA performance, customer metrics, price and fundamental influences, and external portfolio impacts.
  • Dealing with the discovery of new structured and unstructured data sources from internal systems, industry APIs/web scraping/file flows, Counterparty news sources and market participant data sets.
  • Using ML tools and statistical techniques to assist data science projects in systemising data analysis, deployed production environments and effective decision making
  • Input into R&D for concept and prototype development across the desk, department and business for data mining and data-gathering techniques leading into ML/AI design and forecast data visualization.
  • Taking the lead with Sales channels on ensuring marketing volume and growth exposure are forecast correctly.
  • Guarantee key stakeholders of Execution Desk, Portfolio Strategy and Logistics have transparency over all the portfolio forecasts and a full scenario analysis of portfolio distribution.
  • Working with Logistics, Portfolio Modelling and Risk to ensure assumptions, data calibration and visualization for portfolio and deal parameters are up to date, accurately modelled and reconciled.
  • Contributing to the business progressively implementing strategy sheets to tier 4 portfolio level ensuring a degree of quant proficiency across the mental model frame up, back testing and returns profiling.

What you’ll bring to the role?

You will be experienced in systemizing financial data flows and producing analysis across both structured and unstructured data. You will have achieved this through gaining experience with weather, commodities, fixed income, financial services, or another applicable industry.

You will demonstrate the following

  • Object orientated programming, with python expertise to a proficient level to support data manipulation libraries/package management/web frameworks (eg Pandas/Dask, Numpy/Scipy, Matplotlib/seaborn/plotly, pip/conda, flask/Django)
  • SQL, SQLAlchemy and Alembic expertise
  • Machine Learning and AI techniques, micro service architectures such as Docker/Kubernetes and Windows Servers, Elastic Search (ELK Stack) and IIS Web Hosting (desirable)
  • Understanding of front-end web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript (React, Angular or Vue) and visualization platforms e.g. PowerBI / Tableau and Azure DevOps flow board (desirable)
  • Commodity portfolios ‘beta’ and ‘alpha’ (desirable)
  • Demonstratable ability to perform in trading / portfolio management / financial services / research
  • Fluency in business English (essential)
