About the role
As an Algo Trader you will join the Digital Trading team and be at the pinnacle of SM&T’s automated trading infrastructure. Supporting the development and management of flow trading activities. The key responsibility is to look after the Digital Trading estate, risk management of trading activity through oversight of our systematic solutions, understanding of end to end deal process and the algorithmic landscape. you will also be responsible for helping to improve algorithmic trading strategies and support existing strategies using Python in the energy commodity space.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for the management of flow trading book and working closely on quantitative research with others in the Digital Trading team. This includes
- Maintaining and support trading strategies under the guidance of the Digital Trading team
- Perform backtests to analyse results and optimise strategies
- Execute trades and manage risk across energy commodities markets
- Understand and apply knowledge of market structures in which we engage
- Advise on improvements and find workarounds around IT estate and processes
What you’ll bring to the role
Whilst having a basic understanding of trading and risk management is essential for the role (ideally commodities but could be any other trading market), you will need to be comfortable working in a dynamic environment of a rapidly growing business. You will be

- Effective multi-tasker with great written and verbal communication skills
- Strong Python skills
- Exposure to C# or any other programming is a plus
- Degree qualified in STEM or have equivalent experience
